ActionWorks® Application Development Advanced

Overview

This course tackles subjects beyond the scope of the AD-101 course, offering training in the use of ActionWorks Mark up Language and other advanced features of the ActionWorks development platform. Participants will be guided through the deeper, more powerful, aspects of the system and be presented with concrete examples of how to leverage the product to produce sophisticated, real-world applications.

Pre-Requisites

ActionWorks® Business Process Modeling
ActionWorks® Application Development (or equivalent experience)

Objectives

Participants will learn and practice advanced ActionWorks application design and programming techniques. The course will cover:

  • A brief review of concepts presented in the ActionWorks Basic Development Course, including proper use of the builder to create and customize application forms and views, add and remove application services, and manage business process roles and logic.
  • Explanation of functional areas and basic steps required for the development of robust, successful, real-world applications.
  • Elucidation of the process of advanced ActionWorks application development, including presentation of a suggested design methodology and best practices for ActionWorks development projects.
  • Complete investigation of ActionWorks Architecture, including detailed discussions of System Architecture, transaction processing mechanics, and application resource structures.
  • Suggested methods for the proper design and management of applications built outside the ActionWorks Builder environment. Complete instruction in the use of Markup Language (MML), the web development programming language now available with ActionWorks Products, including:
  • Proper use of all MML tags and their parameters
  • Standard ActionWorks data input and output
  • ActionWorks name spaces and variables and their relationships to ActionWorks objects and properties
  • MML operators, functions and controls.
  • Proper use of public ActionWorks Database tables recently made available to direct ODBC access in ActionWorks.
  • Advanced application of MML tools to external resource access, including the use of server-side scripting, COM automation objects, and XML data islands.
  • Presentation of advanced ActionWorks programming topics, such as error checking, transaction rollback management, ODBC database access, integration and synchronization, and Email-based transaction posting.
  • Introduction to issues of performance enhancement in large ActionWorks installations.

Who Should Attend?

Advanced application developers, programmers and system architects involved in the development of complete ActionWorks solutions. Participants should have solid, basic ActionWorks development experience. Participants must have already taken the ActionWorks Business Process Modeling Course and the ActionWorks Basic Development Course or should have solid, basic ActionWorks development experience.
